Textured walls take their colour cue from plush, crimson carpeting recreating the decadent, almost risqué ambiance of the heyday of the early silver screen when “the talkies” were the place to see be seen. Seating is leather that celebrates the comfortable creaks and character that come from years of loving, relaxed use. Naturally, there’s a well-stocked bar, this one presided over by a friendly ape philosophically contemplating a skull – Darwin’s Dilemma indeed.
But this is also a room that boasts some surprises. Ornate columns, resplendent with gilt moldings, house an ultra-contemporary theater/sound system. From lighting to audio effects, from drawing the screen drapes to loading the next movie, it’s all available at your fingertips via remote control.
And in the best Hollywood tradition of intrigue and daring, those in the know can “vanish” into a secret room hidden behind the giant silver screen. A private retreat, here perhaps is where the gentlemen retire to indulge in a quiet cigar, a glass of fine, tawny port, and a few moments of tactical planning. Or maybe it’s the ladies who escape for martinis and an undistracted game of poker with only the brilliantly-colored, tropical fish gliding across the salt water aquarium as witnesses of how high and what the exact nature of the stakes being played for are. But don’t expect details – some mysteries must remain unsolved.
