Garden Theme Dining Room Has Natural Charm

Natural materials including wood, pottery, wrought iron and glass give this dining area a garden room ambience. Even so, the setting is elegant enough to host a formal dinner.

Two exotic Oriental armoires set the tone, providing valuable storage space for dishes and linens while adding character and warmth to the room. On the top of each armoire, a terra cotta pot overflows with artificial greenery. Another large flower pot beside the windows holds an impressive white orchid.

The glass topped table rests on a pair of oversized garden urns, its corners cut away in a clever design that minimizes accidents caused by bumping into a pointed edge. Around the table, a mix of chair styles adds interest and gives the room a less formal look.

Two high-backed chairs upholstered in a creamy damask fabric sit at the head and foot of the table. The side chairs are antique reproductions.

The garden theme is also seen at each place setting where hydrangea blossoms decorate the china plates in muted shades of mauve, green and gold. Colored wine glasses echo this classic color trio.

An elaborate wrought iron chandelier with an antique finish hangs over the table. Cream colored draperies soften the wood framed windows, suspended from rods hung close to the ceiling. The flooring is an easily maintained stone tile that ties in with the patio surface viewed through the windows.
