Carlson's Barnwood Company are in the process of renovating an 1800's farmhouse using reclaimed antique building materials featured and sold at their business in rural Cambridge, Illinois. Pictured are the completed foyer, dining room and newly constructed great room.
In the great room, antique hand-hewn beams and antique brown roofer's wood was used on the catherdral ceiling, while the dormers feature antique rusty corrugated tin, antique stained glass windows and rustic candlelight chandeliers. The Door County split cobble stone fireplace has antique Ohio star brick surrounding the firebox and antique hand-hewn beams were used for the mantel and upright posts. The fireplace wall is random-width weathered reddish-grey barnwood with white chinking between the boards to give the illusion of old logs. A matching stained glass window highlights the antique baby grand piano in the corner. Old world plaster, salvaged trim work and antique distressed random width oak floors are also used in the new great room. Antique furniture and collectibles add to the Old World lodge atmosphere.
A diamond-shaped inlay made from antique Americana hardwoods separates the great room and dining room, while the wide doorway between the two rooms is framed with antique hand-hewn beams.
In the dining room rough sawn brown barnwood planks line the ceiling that also features antique hand-hewn beams. Antique profiled pine planks that are black washed were used as wainscott, and salvaged pine trim that matches the great room frames the windows and doors. Salvaged french doors lead to the foyer and kitchen. A primitive fireplace was constructed from an antique pine mantle, 22-in wide pine barnboards, and antique bricks. Two matching stained glass windows hanging from the windows let a rainbow of colors dance through the room. Antique distressed oak matching the great room was used on the floor.
The foyer features the home's original antique open oak staircase with a dark blue salvaged beadboard and pressed tin chair rail finished in a copper hue on the walls. Stained pressed tin was used on the ceilings and the staircase wall in two different patterns. Photo number 30 shows antique stained glass window in foyer.
